John Wesley (1703-1791)

John Wesley (1703-1791)

John Wesley (1703-1791) was an English clergyman who founded the Methodist movement in Great Britain in the 18th century.

John Wesley appears in Chapter 2 of our Butchart Gardens History. He is important in the Butchart Gardens history because the Butchart family were Methodists and their religion played a strong role in their family life and their entrepreneurial success.

Other important figures in Robert Butchart’s business career were also Methodists, including Joseph Flavelle, George Albertus Cox and Edward R. Wood, all of whom were leading figures in Canadian business during the late 19th and early 20th centuries..
